Undergraduate Programs Please consult the UNC Bulletin for Official program descriptions.
We strive to provide students with close, personal attention. Classes are small. The largest classes for majors will have no more than about 40 students, and most are less than 20. In nearly all classes for majors, both lectures and labs are taught by professors. We believe that students learn the earth sciences best by becoming actively involved in observing and interpreting the universe around us. When you take an astronomy course expect to spend many nights at the star lab observing the night sky. The geology courses for majors all include field trips to study the beautifully exposed geologic features of the Rocky Mountains and adjacent high plains. Meteorology courses make extensive use of the wealth of current meteorological information available on the Web. We're a long ways from the ocean, students have access to a a wide variety of current data via the Web and undertake research and lab projects on local lakes using the O.W. Tollefson. While not required, we strongly encourage students to undertake independent research projects in their junior or senior year. |
